When you go to the grocery store, you may be tempted to buy the first thing you see that fits your needs. However, there are many different brands to choose from and many different tricks that grocery stores use to reel you in. So, it's better to be prepared for what you'll face and deal with it accordingly.
First of all, remember that on sale items may actually not be on sale. Remember that whoever distributes those products has to pay to have them prominently displayed on the aisle ends or at the registers. Someone has to eat those costs and it's usually us, the customers.

Another way that grocery stores can get you is by providing items "for your convenience". For example, pre-made sandwiches or other sorts of on the go meals are everywhere at grocery stores. They might seem convenient, but they're also a lot more expensive than if you just bought the materials and made them yourself. Also, they would probably be a lot healthier if you made them with your own better-quality ingredients.
Finally, don't get roped in by the shelving setup. As mentioned earlier, products come in all sorts of brands. A lot of times, grocery stores will put the most expensive items in the most convenient place for you. Cheaper items are often on the lowest or highest shelves, where many people don't think to look. So, be sure that you're really looking over all of the possibilities before you just go straight for the first item that you see.
